A male condom consists of a thin sheath open, at one end and closed at the other. It fits tightly over the men’s erect penis, so that when he ejaculates, the semen is trapped inside the sheath.

Follow these precautions when you use a condom :

  1. If it is put on too early, it may tear if rubbed against the bedsheet, dirt, sand or car seat.
  2. Make sure your finger nails are trimmed well, otherwise they may puncture the condom.
  3. Use latex condoms.
  4. Condoms should be stored in cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
  5. Don’t use condoms that are brittle, sticky or discoloured, they may be defective.
  6. Use water based lubricants. Petroleum or oil based lubricants weaken the latex and may cause breakage.
  7. Don’t re-use a condom.

If these instructions are followed correctly, condoms will not break.

The female condom is a 6(1/2) inch pouch made of nitrite that is anchored by two flexible plastic rings, one at the cervix and one outside the opening of the vagina.

Follow these precautions when you use a female condom:

  1. Form a figure of eight with the inner ring or squeeze the sides of the inner ring together and gently push the inner ring into the vagina.
  2. Push it in as far as it can go. Your finger nails should be trimmed to avoid puncturing the condom.
  3. Guide your partner’s penis into the condom and stop if at any time his penis is outside the velvet.
  4. Make sure that the penis is not entering on the side, between the sheath and the vagina wall.

If you follow the instructions, your condom will not break.

However, one precaution needs to be taken. A couple should never use the male and the female condom together during their love making. The two kindsof condoms could tear due to friction or slip or even push the outer ring inside the vagina.

So, the belief that condoms break during sex, is a Myth.
